I had my gastric bypass surgery on January 14, 2009. All my life I had fought my weight issues. In November of 2007 my husband had gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Dyer. Because of his success I began to carefully consider having the surgery. I had always thought having the surgery would be a sign of giving in to defeat. All the while my denial was creating more and more health problems for me. In addition to high blood pressue, sleep apnia and borderline diabetes, I hurt from my neck to my feet. These issues were beginning to affect my performance as a teacher. It was obvious that my doing nothing was not working for me. Through my husband's encouragement and support, I realized that having the surgery was not a sign of failure but a tool to help me for the rest of my life. The staff at Dr. Dyer's office has been very supportive and encouraging through the whole surgery process. There have been times that I have called the office with questions and concerns and each time I received prompt attention and helpful answers. Let me share one more thought before I close this testimonial. I appreciated the fact that when my husband and I went in Dr. Dyer's office for the first time, we were treated with respect and compassion. I have been in places, even doctor's offices, where I felt "put down" and second rate because of my size. Thanks again for giving me the opportunity for a new life.

Where do you start, when you're talking about one of the best decisions you have made in your life. I am just now right at 5 months out from surgery (Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass). At this point i have lost 120 pounds and feel so much better. I am able to do the things with my kids that i could not do just a few months ago. My primary care Dr. has already taken me off all my meds that i was taking prior to surgery. My wife is so happy I now don't have to use my c-pap. So now she says she sleeps better. LOL Dr. Dyer was my surgeon, from the first meeting with him I was really impressed. He has great bedside manner and answered all my questions, he put me at ease, but the best thing is he could put my wife and family at ease. He has also been great in my post surgery care. As my luck would have it i am one of the less than 5 percent that had a resticture. When i noticed i had a problem I called the office, I was told that they would speak with Dr. Dyer and call me back. In less than five minutes the phone rang, I was so impressed when i answered and Dr. Dyer was on the other end. I was in the office the next day and back on track. His staff is wonderful. They have been great helping me with the transition from obesity. This is by far the best decision i could have made for my health and for my family. I am so thankful to Dr. Dyer and his staff for giving me my life back.

Dr Dyer performed my surgery and he was wonderful, he is kind and thoughtful and a great Doctor. I felt at ease and comfortable the whole time. I was glad to know that I had chosen a Doctor that was a Christian and would watch out for me durning surgery and after. Thanks, Dr. Dyer. Lois Brown

Dr. Dyer did my surgery and he has been wonderful. Always willing to answer and questions as well as encouraging at each visit. The office staff is always smiling and so friendly and willing to help in any way they can. It took me a very long time to get to the point to where I thought surgery was my last hope. But now I know that it was well worth it. I am still new and learning to change a lot of old habits but with the help of so many who have gone before me I know I can do it.

Dr. Dyer did my surgery. He and his office personel are the greatest! The employees at Centennial were absolutely wonderful also. I initially weighed 260lbs, it is Nov. 28, and now weigh 225.

I have struggled with obesity all of my life. I reached an all time high of 351 lbs and decided that I wanted to change my life around. I had RNY with Dr. Olsen on 2/16/04. It was the best thing I have EVER done for myself. Dr. Olsen gave me a tool to help me take control of my addiction to food, and gave me a new lease on life.

Mikki Barr 08/24/04 barrs@esper.com Friendsville, TN Personal Comments: WOW! I had my bariatric surgery on February 10, 2004. I have lost 80 pounds as of my 6 month checkup. I had my surgery in Nashville (a 3 hour drive for me). I had it done with Dr. David Dyer at Centennial Medical Center. The staff and the Doctor were wonderful. I had some minor complications which kept me in the hospital a little longer than I would have liked, but the results have definitely made up for it! Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: My first impression of Dr. Dyer (as with all doctors, I'm afraid) is that he was just doing a job. Over time, I realized he does care even though he does not show a lot of emotion. His staff is excellent and very caring. I think the thing I least like about him is the fact that he doesn't spend too much time with the patients, but I do realize he is very busy. My time is just as important, though. I hope that he and any doctor can realize that. He does emphasize aftercare very strongly and they do have a very structured aftercare program. Dr. Dyer addressed all the risks of surgery. Overall, I would rate Dr. Dyer a very competent surgeon.

Personal Comments: Have Sleep Apnea - CPAP set at 19; type 2 diabetes, hypertension, family history of heart disease & stroke, on lipitor for high cholesterol and triglycerides, have hypothyroidism; BMI of 46 - 180 lbs overweight; highly insulin resistant; polycystic ovary syndrome; beginning to have lower back problems; apple shape - all weight in trunk; have had unbilical abdominal hernia surgery 7 times; am 47 years old; on disability from USPS 6 years; Have Medicare as primary insurance and BCBS Federal Employ...... Click here to read more Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: I first met Dr. Houston at a seminar. He impressed me then but I was more impressed when I had my consultation. He described everything in detail and answered all my questions. My surgery is going to be more difficult because of 7 previous hernia surgeries and possible adhesions. He was undaunted by the fact that it would be more difficult. He said it might take 6-8 hours to do but acted like it was no big deal. I like his confidence. I have "checked him out" and found that he has excellent credentials. All of the posts I have found from previous patients were excellent. He is one of a few surgeons who does lap revisions. Revisions are difficult and require more skill; a lot of surgeons will not do them - but Dr. Houston will! Right now I give him a 20 out of 10. Will let you know more after surgery! 8/31/04 Am 6 days post-op and must tell you all that I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Houston in a minute.

Personal Comments: I have a wonderful personality and I love to have fun. 07-12-04 I know I haven't been updating my profile like I should but I guess I got discouraged because I had not heard anything from the insurance company on rather or not I was approved for my surgery. Well today was the best Monday that I have in a long time. I got to work an hour early so I could have some time to focus on writing an appeal letter to my insurance company. Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: My first impression of Dr. Douglas Olsen was that he was very informative on the different types of bariatric surgeries that were out there. When he speaks to you he explains everything clearly to make sure that you understand. Dr. Olsen explains all the pros and cons of the surgery. My impression has staed the same. The staff was very nice and they will do what ever they can to try and help you with any questions that you may have. There was not anything about him that I did not like.Dr. Olsen really emphasizes aftercare he wants to make sure that you follow his orders. Cenntennial has a great aftercare program and I can not wait to go.Dr. Olsen made sure I understood the risk of this surgery and made sure I was aware of everything that could possibly happen. I would rate Dr. Olsen 10.Both are great competence, and bed side manners.

Personal Comments: A little about me... I am 28 years old, I have been married for 5 years. I have been overweight since grade school. I have been on tons of diets since then. I never had regular menstral cycles and started seeing an OBGYN way before any girl should have to. I was on birth control long before I had ever even kissed a boy LOL This went on until I was 20 years old with no idea what the problem was and just a bunch of doctors telling me I needed to lose weight.
